Beth Mexin
As a Child:

Beth’s music career began in Lafayette, Indiana, at the age of four. Her first solo, all four verses of “Amazing Grace”, was performed for visiting grandparents. Beth’s favorite spot was the front pew of her family’s church, watching the choir practice. She often had the music memorized before her parents did.

It seemed she was always singing, and the songs she loved most were those reflecting God’s glory. She loved to sing along when her mom and dad practiced at home, and often joined in from the front pew when the church choir practiced. One of her favorite activities was the frequent “family sing” times held as part of family devotions.

Beth’s musical abilities were nurtured by her parents and children’s choir directors and recognized by others in the church as she participated in children’s choir specials and musicals. She had parts in several of Ron Hamilton’s “Patch the Pirate” children’s musicals.  She had a solo in the “Music Machine” and sang in “The Backyard Gang” with her Christian school choir.  While participating in her school talent show she won a Blue Ribbon in voice.
As a Teenager:

As Beth entered her teen years she began to sense that she had a gift. As a teenager, she participated in the “Talents for Christ” musical competition, in the female vocal division. She continued singing in church choirs and performed solos for church services and special events when asked. While attending McCutcheon High School, she joined the Concert Choir. People began telling Beth how much her singing encouraged and blessed them.
As an Adult:

As Beth went to Purdue University, God increased within her very being her desire for a music ministry, which has become her passion.  By this time she was fully aware of her abilities, yet always remained humble, acknowledging her gift came from God.  She volunteered for all opportunities to sing, whether at a nursing home, retirement home, or other ministries sponsored by the church.

In an effort to be able to sing more often, Beth joined the Tippecanoe Home Extension Chorus.  This was a local choral group for women, one of many established in several counties within Indiana, by Purdue University Musical Organizations.  These choral groups were open to the general public in each of the representative counties, for women who loved to sing.

Beth also auditioned for and was accepted into the Purdue University Choir 1997-1998, while attending Purdue.  This was a super opportunity to sing and gave her some professional musical training.

Beth’s first professional concert, outside of a church sponsored event, was at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, in their café, in 1998.  Although Beth was initially willing to sing for free, they gave her a small payment for being a guest artist.  The sound system and keyboard were borrowed from the church, and a good friend was her accompanist.  It turned out to be a highlight of her musical career and a very fond memory.  There were several important things about this concert.  1)  Her first singing engagement professionally.  2)  She was paid for it.  3)  The greatest opportunity, was that she was able to sing about 12 Gospel songs during an hour and fifteen minute concert.  She was able to spread the message of the Gospel to all within the sound of her voice in the store.

Beth was a participant in 2000, in two Gospel talent competitions in Nashville, Tennessee.  It was a fantastic opportunity to compete, meet other Gospel singers, but mainly just another opportunity to sing.  In 2001 Beth was in the Lafayette Civic theater production of the musical State Fair.  In 2002 she participated in “Party on the Square Talent Search”, was a guest soloist in a summer car show and the Gospel Music Fest in Connersville, Indiana.  Beth also participated in the “Strawberry Festival Competition” (2nd place overall Karaoke), in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
